Massage therapy… for humans or horses?

I have always been a firm believer in the benefits of massage therapy for MYSELF… oh yes… but for my horse…?

Equine Sports Massage Therapy is the therapeutic application of hands-on massage techniques for the purpose of increasing circulation, relaxing muscle spasms, relieving tension, enhancing muscle tone, and increasing range of motion in horses.

This morning, I had the pleasure of meeting with Sarah Hooberry, C.E.S.M.T. (Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist).  Sarah was kind enough to come by the Green Barn and introduce herself, school me on some of the benefits of Equine Massage Therapy and actually do a free consultation of on of our “ouchiest” horses… Becky.

I was amazed, at how in just a few short moments, Sarah was able to identify Becky’s “ouchiest” and most tense spots, and explained to us how Equine Massage Therapy would benefit her immensely.

It makes sense though… don’t we as people feel amazing a couple days after a stress-relieving massage?  And horses, especially those who have any type of past injuries that leave residual stiffness, are ridden often and/or those considered “high-performance” (jumpers, etc.) will undoubtedly show significant improvement in muscle fluidity.

I’m a believer!
